一、春节的介绍

l 春节，又叫农历新年，是中国民间最隆重、最热闹的一个节日，是举家欢庆团团圆圆的大好时节，就像西方的圣诞节一样。

l The Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese people and is when all family members get together, just like Christmas in the West.

l 春节是每年农历正月初一，通常比公历新年要晚一个月。它起源于殷商时期年头岁尾的民间祭祖活动。

l The Spring Festival falls on the 1st day of the 1st lunar month, often one month later than the Gregorian calendar. It originated in the Shang Dynasty (c. 1600 BC-c. 1100 BC) from the people’s sacrifice to gods and ancestors at the end of an old year and the beginning of a new one.

l 严格来讲，春节不只是一天的庆祝，而是从农历的12月底到新年的正月十五，不过最重要的几天当属除夕夜和新年头三天。春节是法定假日，大家一般都会放七天假，又叫做黄金周。

l Strictly speaking, the Spring Festival starts every year in theend of days of the 12th lunar month and will last till the mid 1st lunar month of the next year. Of them, the most important days are Spring Festival Eve and the first three days. Most people will have a week off, thus, this time is known as golden week.

l 虎年

十二生肖，又叫属相，是中国与十二地支相配以人出生年份的十二种动物，包括鼠、牛、虎、兔、龙、蛇、马、羊、猴、鸡、狗、猪。2022年2月1日是虎年的开始。

The Chinese zodiac, or Sheng Xiao (生肖), is a repeating 12-year cycle of animal signs and their ascribed attributes, based on the lunar calendar. In order, the zodiac animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. Chinese New Year 2022 will fall on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, starting a year of the Tiger.

² 你发现了吗？2022年春节没有大年三十

由于我国的农历历法是由太阳、月亮的运动周期决定的，而月球、地球、太阳三者之间的相对运动并非一成不变，农历一年中就出现了大月30天、小月29天的分法。今年腊月恰逢小月，于是便没有大年三十。

（1）年夜饭

Enjoying a Reunion Dinner

l 春节是一个合家团圆的日子，在除夕夜，全家都合家团圆一起共享除夕大餐。这顿饭通常是全家总动员，每个人都要参与，也通常是一年之中最丰盛美味的一餐。在年夜饭中，有一些美好象征意义的美食是必备的。比如在北方，年夜饭上的传统菜肴是饺子。饺子的形状很像古代中国的元宝，象征着财富。

l The Spring Festival is a time for the Chinese to have family reunion, on Chinese New Year’s Eve (Chu Xi), the whole family must sit at the table to eat the New Year’sSuppertogether. This meal is usually made from scratch with the entire family working together, and this meal is usually the most sumptuous meal of the year. In the New Year’s Supper, it is essential that some dishes contain the family wishes for the New Year. In Northern China a traditional dish for the feast is jiaozi. They are shaped like old Chinese ingots, symbolizing wealth.

（2）拜年

Paying lunar New Year's calls/visits; giving Spring Festival greetings

l 在大年初一，国人会穿上新衣服，并对亲朋好友道一句“恭喜”，希望彼此能在新年幸福快乐。传统习俗是年轻人给长辈拜年，祝福他们健康长寿。

l On the first day of the New Year, Chinese put on new clothes and wish each other good luck and happiness in the New Year. It is customary for the younger generation to visit their elders, and wish them health and longevity.

（3）发红包

Red packets / envelopes

l 过年时，通常是大人和长辈给小朋友们发红包，用压岁钱抵御厄运，保佑孩子健康成长。这几年电子红包越发火爆，“抢红包”俨然已成了微信上最流行的游戏。

l Usually the red packet is given by adults and elderly to young children in New Year days. It was believed that the money in the red packet will suppress the evil from the children and keep them healthy. Digital red packets have gone viral in recent years, and“grabbing red packets” has become an extremely popular game on WeChat.

（4）看春晚

Watching the CCTV annual Spring Festival Eve Gala

l 吃年夜饭看春晚已经成为很多中国家庭的习俗。晚会开始于除夕夜晚上八点，凌晨新年钟声敲响时结束，中国最优秀的歌手、舞者和杂技演员会登台表演传统小品和流行节目。

l It’s becomea Chinese custom for many families to watch the CCTV annual Spring Festival Eve Gala while having their dinner. The gala starts at 8 pm and ends at midnight when the New Year arrives, featuring traditional folk, and pop performances from China’s best singers, dancers, and acrobats.

l 新年倒计时：在午夜前，主持人开始倒计时。之后午夜钟声敲响。

l Countdown to the New Year: Just before midnight, the hosts lead a countdown to midnight. A bell is rung at the stroke of midnight.

l 难忘今宵：这首歌是每年“春晚”结束时大家一起合唱的一首歌。

l “UnforgettableTonight”: This closing song is sung at the end of every “CCTV New Year’s Gala” show.

（5）贴门神

Affixing Door God Image

l 人们在门上贴门神，来祈求幸福、长寿、健康与和平。两扇门上的门神被认为能够驱赶恶灵。

l People paste door gods on doors as a prayer for blessings, longevity, health, and peace. Two door gods on double doors are thought to keep evil spirits from entering.

l 门神在中国象征正义与力量，因此中国的门神总是皱着眉头、手持各种武器，准备同恶鬼斗争。

l The door gods symbolize righteousness and power in China, therefore Chinese door gods are always scowling, holding various weapons, and ready to fight with evil spirits.

（6）贴春联

Pasting up/stick spring couplets/scrolls

l 春联是对仗工整的文字，通常一联七字，由黑墨笔写在红纸上，然后贴在门框两侧。有时，四五字的横批也会贴在门框顶端。

l Spring couplets are paired phrases, typically of seven Chinese characters each, written on red paper in black ink, and one pasted on each side of a door frame. Sometimes a phrase of four or five characters is affixed to the top of the door frame as well.

l 春联里满是美好的祝福。一些人会自己写，而大部分人则从商店里买已经写好的春联。贴春联也被看作是驱魔除恶的方式。

l New Year couplets are filled with best wishes. Some people write the couplets themselves, but most people buy them (ready printed) from the market. Pasting spring couplets is thought to keep evil away.
